Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Femoston Conti Low (estradiol, dydrogesterone) is used to reduce the unpleasant symptoms of menopause, as occurs naturally through age or due to surgery, medications, or injury. Less commonly women at risk of osteoporosis alone may buy Femoston Conti Low to slow the disease, even when other symptoms aren't present.
The Low in this product indicates that it's the lowest possible dosage strength, containing 0.5 mg estradiol and 2.5 mg dydrogesterone. Other formulations of Femoston Conti are higher.
Who Should Buy Femoston Conti Low
This product requires several considerations before use. First is whether or not the uterus is intact---women who don't have a uterus may take advantage of estrogen-only HRT, as the dydrogesterone---a progestin---in Femoston Conti Low provides benefit only in protecting the uterus from side effects of estrogen, such as endometrial cancer.
Women who do have a uterus should then evaluate the need for HRT. Though it sees relatively common use, HRT does carry potentially serious risks and women should not buy Femoston Conti Low unless menopausal symptoms are severe enough to compensate for those risks. That is, of course, a personal decision. Otherwise healthy women are at relatively low risk, while those with other major medical conditions are significantly higher.
Osteoporosis---loss of bone density---will likely be diagnosed by a doctor. Likewise, which strength of the medication to buy, Femoston Conti Low or regular Femoston Conti, will ideally be determined by a doctor who can take into account personal variables.
In all cases Femoston Conti Low---or any HRT---should be taken at the lowest effective dose and for the shortest possible time. The need to continue HRT should be reassessed every six months. Continued, long-term use of HRT increases risk of serious side effects.
Treating Menopause
Most women reading this are probably familiar with the unpleasant symptoms of declining estrogen levels, including:
Femoston Conti Low offers a convenient way to minimize---even eliminate---the above symptoms. Effects may be noticeable days after starting treatment, but full benefit will not be seen until the medication has been taken for about 4 consecutive weeks.
Femoston Conti Low, in being the lowest possible dose of Femoston Conti, may be given as a starter dose, increased after several weeks to regular Femoston Conti strengths, or it may prove suitable on its own. The Low version of the product in particular may be given to women who are at relatively high risk of experiencing adverse reactions from higher doses.
Regardless of which strength of the medication is being taken, administration is the same:
There should be no gaps in taking tablets---once per day, every day. Brand-name Femoston Conti Low comes in blister packs with each day of the month marked to help patients keep track; generic versions may vary.
Treatment may continue for 6 months to several years, provided no side effects develop.
Who Should Not Buy Femoston Conti Low
As mentioned above, Femoston Conti low (like all estrogen-based HRT) is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, other estrogen-dependent tumors, blood clots, heart attack, and stroke. This risk is slight, though it does increase with duration of use and women who are already predisposed to such complications are at significantly higher risk than others. Women with a history of the following should not buy Femoston Conti Low:
Other, more common side effects are much milder and generally not cause for concern. They're usually transient, as well, meaning they'll stop occurring after the first few weeks of treatment. Common side effects are:
Rarely more serious side effects develop, which call for discontinuation of Femoston Conti Low:
Femoston Conti Low can interact with other treatments, particularly other estrogen- and/or progestin-containing medications. Speak with a doctor or pharmacist before mixing medications.
